PhD in Nutrition, Senior Scientist at Human Nutrition and Health Research Department of DSM Nutritional Products
Barbara has a PhD in Nutrition and her main expertise is on vitamins and minerals for human health. She has been working as a Scientist and subsequently Senior Scientist with DSM Nutritional Products for more than 6 years. While her thesis was on bioavailability and safety of iron from home fortified foods in developing countries, her research focus has since moved to vitamin and mineral requirements during different stages of the life cycle such as pregnancy, lactation and infancy, but also old age. Her background and knowhow allow her to discuss a broad range of topics such as nutritional gaps around the globe, consequences of suboptimal nutrition early in life, effect of polymorphisms on nutritional requirements and disease risk and the importance of adequate nutrition for the elderly.
