Supply Situation

A recent dietary survey in the U.S. indicated that the average dietary potassium intake is only about 2,300 mg/day for adult women and 3,100 mg/day for adult men (22), which is significantly below the current adequate intake level of 4,700 mg/day (see Intake Recommendations).

The relative deficiency of dietary potassium in the modern diet may play a role in the pathology of some chronic diseases.
